The City is ultimately responsible for maintenance and improvements to the public street system, including the sidewalks and stormwater. A large number of miscellaneous functions fall under their responsibility as well. Within their jurisdiction are snow removal, stormwater control, sign maintenance, street repair, sidewalk replacement, road right of way clearing and maintenance, and compliance with City Code regarding speed limits, signs and parking violations.
Within Dover there are over 12 miles of bike and pedestrian trails including the connector to Sandpoint. We are currently working with North Idaho Bikeways to extend the east-west trail beyond Dover and hopefully to the Washington Border at Newport. For more information about this group, go to their website at www.northidahobikeways.com
Popular mechanics Magazine featured the Dover Bridge as one of the top 10 bridges needing to be replaced. We are glad to announce that the Idaho Transportation Department Board has acknowledged this need. Governor Butch Otter announced on Friday, May 2, that $38 million of federal stimulus funding will be used to construct a new Dover Bridge. The project will be advertised for bidding in May and June.
