Program: Information Resources Management (IRM)

Introduction:

The 2-year English-taught master’s program of Information Resources Management (IRM) offers two major tracks: Information Management and Data Analytics (IM&DA) and Digital Humanities (DH). Since established in 1927, the School of Information Management in Nanjing University has been recognized as one of the best information schools in China. As the third iSchools in Asia, SIM has been accredited as A+ level (highest level) and National Excellent Disciplines in China, and ranked 26th in QS World University Ranking 2019. The School consists of 69 faculty and staff members, a number of well-known academic leaders. The School offers multi-level programs from undergraduate to PhD. By establishing four undergraduate, six graduate and doctoral specialties, we have currently built up a mature educational mode of cultivating compound talents within innovative consciousness and high practical ability.

Program Objectives:

The program offers training in the theoretical and practical study of the intersections between social science and information science. Our cross-disciplinary program offers rigorous hands-on training in information management research and applications with computerized techniques that are particularly useful for this field of inquiry as they allow for processing large amounts of data across the barriers of time and space.

Track 1: Information Management and Data Analytics (IM&DA)

The 2-year program fulfills requirements for information management skills and data analysis jobs. The major goal of IM&DA Program is to train highly competent, socially responsible, and skilled general internists who will become leaders in the field of data management and data analysis.

Toward this end, the program has a number of specific objectives:

1. IM&DA program gives a grounding in management practices and develops your skills so you can play a key role in data analysis information deployment.

2. IM&DA courses designed to prepare students for challenging careers involving the design, implementation and operation of computer-based information systems.

Track 2: Digital Humanities (DH)

The 2-year program fulfills requirements for information management skills and digital humanity works. The major goal of DH Program is to teach students how to apply emerging technologies to traditional areas of humanistic inquiry.

Toward this end, the program has a number of specific objectives:

1. Acquire familiarity with the process of advanced research in information management and digital humanities.

2. Develop a range of computerized methods for data collection, analysis, and visualization.

3. Gain a broad interdisciplinary perspective on the information management and digital humanities.

4. Develop a research portfolio in hands-on classes and field work.

Admission Requirements:

1. This program encourages anyone interested in the intersection of the social science and technology to apply. No computing skills are necessary to begin the program.

2. Applicants need to hold a bachelor’s degree in social science or other related disciplines.

3. The applicants whose native language is not English need to submit official TOEFL (above 90 points) or IELTS scores (above 6.5 points).  

4. The applicants should also be willing to learn some Chinese in the study duration, and need to pass HSK 3 before graduation.
